HP, Stop Killing Full Instant Ink Cartridges

Cancel Instant Ink and HP can brick the cartridges still in your printer, even full ones. The ink is right there. The cloud just said no.

Editorial still life of a generic inkjet printer with a full ink cartridge and a red denied stamp vibe, no brand logos

01 / The accusation

HP didn't sell you ink. They leased you a permission slip.

Instant Ink works until you cancel. Then HP’s own support script is blunt: yank the subscription carts and buy retail, because those full cartridges are done on purpose.

It’s a printer, not a nightclub. Full ink shouldn’t need a monthly wristband.

03 / Independent proposal

We drew a fix because “keep your ink” somehow needed slides.

Local mode for Instant Ink hardware: when the plan ends, leftover ink keeps printing until empty. No cloud kill switch for what’s already in the bay. Cancel means cancel, not a DRM encore.

Speculative concept, not an HP product, endorsement, or plan. Nobody at HP asked. Anyone staring at a full, dead cartridge already did.

04 / Add your name

Tell HP: cancel means cancel, not a cartridge funeral.

Don’t need our exact concept. The bar is dumb-simple: leftover ink after cancel should still print, or get a clean return credit. Cloud vetoes for physical ink are a product choice, not physics.

Tell HP that canceling Instant Ink should not remotely kill full cartridges already in the printer.
